About once each month, a group of UT volunteers (mostly from SPS and Haslam Scholars) go to Pond Gap Elementary School to teach kids about science. Essentially, these volunteers prepare and lead interactive experiments with the school students on a wide variety of science topics (sometimes with some math or engineering). This not only gets the students excited about science, but it also provides a free lunch and childcare for a large part of the day. The students love it, and the volunteers get ~5 hours of community service credit each time if needed!

Here is an online article about the program. We would love to see Science Saturday spread to more local schools, so if you like what you see and have ideas, please tell us. Email us at utksps@gmail.com.
