Upcoming Presentation Events
Each year, a group of SPS members travels to one or more physics conferences where students can gain presentation experience and observe recent trends in research areas. Please support your fellow members presenting PowerPoints at the Undergraduate Research Students' Association on Friday, April 13 as well as posters at the Exhibition of Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement (EURēCA poster presentations) on April 16-20. If you are deciding on an area of physics you want to pursue for research, these events are a great opportunity to network and see what other students have been able to do.
Annual Pumpkin Drop
The Society of Physics Students hosts an Annual Pumpkin Drop. We start with music, drinks, and student organizations (including activities and goodies). Then we have a free costume contest, for anyone who would like to participate, that includes prizes for various categories. We also bring out some of our more rarely appearing demos such as the bed of nails and cornstarch run. The final event is the actual dropping of pumpkins, big and small, that have been frozen in Liquid Nitrogen so that they shatter upon impact. This event will be free and open to both the university and public. We invite student organizations to contact us (see below) if they would like to have a table. Please select one or more positions on our volunteer form to make this event happen!
